Those of you may be aware of our beloved Surrey Square makeover that is occurring in the heart of downtown Norwood. I drove past it today on my way to the Speckled Bird Cafe and saw that they totally demolished the old McDonald’s and Media Play sites. YEAH, the new Kroger’s is going to be going up soon! It made me wonder what is going to be at the other end in the new construction. So, I asked around. I have no sources to actually confirm this, but my original source is pretty reputable. I heard that a Chipotleis coming to Norwood! How very exciting! I do hope that this rumor is true… Yummy guacamole

As much as I like the idea of a chipotle in Surrey Square, I think that the character of “downtown” Norwood has been lost because of this. Surrey Square would be at home in West Chester or Mason, I’d rather see Chipotle do an adaptive reuse of some vacant store front along Montgomery than be part of some new urbanist mess. I am doing my senior thesis on evaluating sense of place in Norwood. If anyone wants info on it, just email me.

I agree, I would have much rather seen it in a vacant store front. I was driving through Northside the other day and thought about how Norwood, should get a bit of direction from what they’ve done. Council should look into this….

The old Surrey Square certainly didn’t do much for “downtown” Norwood. I’d rather see it revitalized, with a chance of new businesses following its success, than watch it languish along with all the other store fronts.
With Chipotle in Hyde Park, how about a Qdoba for Norwood, instead? There’s a rivalry I can get behind.

What we urgently need are bunches of perrenial flowers to enhance Surry Square!!! I keep anxiously looking for signs of planting, but see only a few lonely bushes and so forth. The plantings are what will revitalise Norwood. Are there any garden groups here?
P.S. Nice website, Ms. Stutzman.

I agree flowers would be great. There is the Norwood Tree Board that could help out with this:

As far as garden groups? Not sure. Anyone else know??
